Italian Language Grammar – Expressing Possession

In English, we typically use either an article or a possessive, but not both: “I love the cat.” “I love my cat.” In Italian, however, we do use both: “I love the my cat.” The article and the possessive agree in gender and number with the noun to which they refer, whatever is being possessed.
